Fierce

Do you find that you give your power away?  Play it meek so that you do not make someone else uncomfortable?  We often make ourselves smaller to accommodate others.  I believe Marrianne Williamson said it best in the following poem:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

What do you think of her poem?  When you start feeling like you are giving away your power or playing small.  Try a mantra or affirmation that reminds you that you are indeed magnificent  When using affirmation, you have to believe it for it to work.  That's where a mantra can come in handy.  For example, you find that you give your power away to your boss, you shrink and hid.  You can try an affirmations like:

  • I am powerful
  • I am worthy
  • I let my own light shine
  • I am fabulous
  • I am (fill in your own)

I think of mantra more as gentle reminders.  Something that eases the internal tension that we are feeling by not being our authentic self.  A couple mantras you can try are:

  • I accept you and I accept myself
  • This too shall pass (I love this one for very uncomfortable situations)
  • This is not about me (a reminder not to take things personally)
  • Peace, love and laughter
  • or create your own- when creating your own, think of the affect the words are bringing to you.

Do you use affirmations or mantras?  If so which ones work the best for you or don't work?  What is your experience using mantras and affirmations?

I look forward to hearing from you and your experiences.  Thank you for reading.  Take care til next time.
