The villain could be your shadow (part in a series on Shadow work and some soul play)

Think of your favorite television show, movie, book, comic.  Do you have a favorite villain?  Is there a villain or character you love to hate?  Is there a villain or character you just can’t stand?  Say hello to your shadow.

Lots of people root for the bad guy.  Secretly wish they were like the bad guy.  It’s normal and natural.  These characters are extensions of you and me.  They have the same traits and qualities that we have.  Some of these traits are just exaggerated to invoke an emotion and to aid the hero on his/her journey.

Our shadow is part of us.  Wither we like it or not.  Working with your shadow can provide you with great insight and healing.  As well as, learning more about its function and why it is like it is.  See your shadow, grows and changes like you do.  It adapts, like you do.  And it can provide tremendous healing and insight into you and your life.

Ready to play with your shadow?  Let’s look at those villains you love to hate, or the characters you just can’t stand.

Give yourself plenty of time to really dive into the questions below.  Let your imagination fly.  Don’t censor yourself, let it flow.  If you want, print of the play sheet.

What is about this character that you just can’t stand?

Picture it.  Where would you meet this character?  What would you be doing? What would you ask them?  What would they say to you?  Do they have a message for you?

Do you have some of their traits?  Which ones? Do you secretly wish you had some of their traits?  Which ones?

Now let’s switch you the character you love to hate.  What is it about this character you love to hate?

Again, picture it.  Where would you meet this character? What would you be doing? What would you ask them?  What would they say to you?  Do they have a message for you?

Do you have some of their traits?  Which ones? Do you secretly wish you had some of their traits?  Which ones?

Did anything surprise you?  Anything you liked?  Didn’t like?  Had a strong reaction to?

Let this information soak it.  Don’t judge it.  It’s just information to help you on your life’s path.  To provide you insight into you.  To help you heal and feel more whole.  If you had a strong reaction it’s an indication that you are close to something.  Sometimes it can be an old wound or a part of you you have rejected.  If you are struggling with anything that came up during this activity. talk to someone you trust, friend, family member, therapist.

How was it?  Let me know, I’d love to hear from you!
